Badminton, from day one
Rules that actually come up on court, a quiz to check what stuck, and a club tool to track sessions and costs — so you walk in ready and walk out wanting to come back.
ClearHigh and deep to their back line. The shot that buys you time to get back to the middle.
Pick a tab. The court on the right redraws itself to match what you're reading, so you can see the lines instead of memorising numbers.
In singles the court gets narrower and longer: the two outer tramlines are out, but the very back line is in. Your job is to move your opponent and get back to the middle.
Doubles uses the full width of the court, so the tramlines are in. The trade-off is the serve: it has to land shorter, in front of the inner back line.
The serve is the most rule-heavy shot in badminton, and the one beginners get pulled up on. There are only four things to get right.
You don't need to be serving to score. Whoever wins the rally gets the point and the next serve, which makes games move quickly and mistakes expensive.
Without an umpire you call your own side of the net, and the convention is simple: if you aren't sure, it's in. Doubt goes to your opponent.
Singles: the inner sidelines and the full back line. The outer tramlines are out.
Level 1 is five questions. Every level after that is ten. Score 80% to clear a level and climb from Beginner to Ultimate.
